The Huckster Wagon

The Huckster Wagon
Ongoing

The word huckster comes from a Dutch word that means peddler. The tradition of merchants selling their wares from horse-drawn wagons was quite prevalent in Saginaw during the early 20th century. The merchants had organized routes through neighborhoods bringing fresh produce and other merchandise to residents. This exhibit tells the story of life as a huckster using the James Licavoli family as our example. Mr. Licavoli came to Saginaw in 1904 when he was 14 years old. He became a huckster a year later and his story comes to life in this charming exhibit.
